Aeration of SW, for water change!?
I am doing a 10% water change in my SW aquarium 20 g so I am doing a 2 g water change. So I mixed some water I used instant ocean I have read that I should let the water aerate over night even on the box it says that it can be used imeaditly or let it sit, so I put a air line in each 1 gallon carton one line lost the spliter each for 10 mins ad switching periodicly. Can I change the water if the salt is correct I also used prime to make the water safe. Will it hurt if I use it now?? Also should I change the filter cartridge before or after the change? Thanks!
~Kyle!!
I have always let my salt water aerate overnight in large 32 gallon containers to make sure it is totally blended however I have never done in studies to actually see if this makes a difference. So my opinion is to let it aerate if you have time, but not to worry about it if you do not (when I moved aquariums for my customers I never had the luxury of this, so often the water only aerated for ½ before being added, but the fish were generally already stressed from the move.
What I do strongly recommend though is to use RO water (Reverse Osmosis) to mix your SW if at all possible so as to have as clean of SW as possible (nitrate and phosphate free).
If Tap Water is used, Prime is a very good product to safely neutralize chorine/chloramines, nitrites, and even nitrates. So I the absence of RO water Prime is definitely the way to go.
As for the cartridge, what type of filter is this for?
